WICHITA RESIDENT’S POWERBALL PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF

TOPEKA, KAN. – Over the past two years, Ernest Galacgac has purchased Powerball tickets occasionally. Recently however, the Wichita resident decided if he was ever going to win, he’d have to play faithfully.
“When I first started buying Powerball tickets, I’d buy them when I remembered there was a drawing,” said Galacgac. “About two months ago, I began buying tickets every Wednesday and Saturday, never missing a drawing.”
His decision proved to be a profitable one. The 47-year-old, who purchased a $5 Quick Pick Powerball ticket in the Aug. 15 drawing, won a $10,013 cash prize!
“Last Sunday when I was at the bowling alley, I realized I hadn’t checked my tickets yet,” explained the winner. “I had two Hot Lotto tickets and two Powerball tickets to check, so I went over to the Check-A-Ticket machine to check the tickets myself. The first three tickets I scanned were not winners. When I scanned the fourth ticket the machine read, ‘Sign back of ticket, redeem at Lottery.’ I knew I must have won something big, but I wasn’t sure, so I asked the gal behind the bar to check my ticket again for me.”
Once the bartender confirmed his win, he was very excited.
“Winning $10,013 isn’t life changing, but it will definitely relieve some stress,” said Galacgac.
Galacgac, who is single, works for Weigand-Omega in Wichita. He plans to pay bills with his prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at QuikTrip 366, located at 1620 S. Webb Rd. in Wichita.
