KCK WOMAN WINS $20,000 PLAYING LOTTERY’S MOST POPULAR SCRATCH GAME

TOPEKA, KAN. – Debra Easterday, 49, of Kansas City, Kan., was screaming and yelling when she thought she’d won $2,000 playing a $2 Bonus Crossword ticket. When she recounted her words and found out she’d actually won $20,000, she went into shock.
“I really didn’t believe it,” Easterday said. “I gave the ticket to my husband and then I paced the floor, back and forth, while he checked it. After that, we called the Lottery office, just to be sure.”
Bonus Crosswords are the Kansas Lottery’s most popular instant scratch games. Easterday says she typically buys about five $2 Bonus Crossword tickets at a time, a couple of times a week, and has been doing this for several years.
“He’s always giving me a hard time about buying so many tickets,” Easterday said, referring to her husband.
“I can’t say another word now, can I?” said Brian Easterday.
Brian is employed by Union Pacific. Debra works for Scotch Industries. The couple plans to make a down payment on a new truck with part of their prize money.
Debra Easterday bought her lucky Bonus Crossword ticket at Conoco Short Stop, located at 7647 Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas.
